Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as physical violence, sexual violence, stalking and/or psychological aggression (including coercive acts such as limiting access to phones, family, and transportation), or exploiting vulnerabilities (including immigration status or undisclosed sexual orientation) by a current or former intimate partner.

This type of violence can be carried out against women, men and members of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2018, it was estimated that 847,000 IPV-related Violent Crimes occurred in the United States. In Los Angeles County, domestic violence is one of the main drivers of homelessness.
